The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years, has once again reprimanded Sahara Reporters over false and malicious publication on the person of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Reacting to a misleading publication titled “Nigerian Police Under IGP Egbetokun Promote Deputy Senate President’s Orderly, CSP Garba Twice Within One Year In Violation Of Act, Officers Lament Irregularities,” the Publicity Director of the Alliance, Danjuma Lamido, stated that the Police Service Commission (Establishment) Act 2001, which came into force on 4th January 2001, elaborates on the constitutional provisions upon which the PSC is founded. Section 6(1) of the Act stipulates that the Commission shall, among other things: a) Be responsible for the appointment and promotion of persons to offices (other than the office of the Inspector-General of Police) in the Nigeria Police Force.
“
“Sahara Reporters has failed again to tarnish the reputation of IGP Egbetokun, as Section 6 (1) of the Police Service Commission (Establishment) Act 2001 is very clear on the promotion of police personnel.
“The malicious publication that, “aggrieved officers told SaharaReporters that the police promotion exercise under the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was full of irregularities, corruption, and illegalities”. is baseless, misleading, and fallacious, Lamido said.
“We wish to state categorically that Abdulrahman Baba Garba, the aide-de-camp to the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has never even enjoyed special promotions before, and he is due for the promotion he was decorated on. Sahara Reporters’ irresponsible journalism is becoming glaring on a daily basis, Lamido said.
