South West Youth Alliance Counters Wike’s Allegations Against CP Akin Fakorede

The South West Youth Alliance has dismissed recent allegations made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against CP Akin Fakorede, Head of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Adenike Ajanlekoko, the group described Wike’s claims as “false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of a dedicated police officer.”

According to the Alliance, CP Fakorede, during his service as Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State, never brutalized law-abiding residents but focused his operations strictly on criminals and violent gangs. His efforts, the group noted, contributed significantly to restoring peace and security in the state.

The statement further alleged that Wike’s hostility toward CP Fakorede stemmed from the officer’s refusal to accept financial inducements to compromise electoral integrity in Rivers State. “CP Fakorede’s rejection of billions of naira in inducement remains the true genesis of Wike’s ceaseless attacks,” the Alliance said.

It added that contrary to Wike’s claims, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) never indicted CP Fakorede for misconduct. The group challenged the minister to produce any INEC report to back his allegations, stressing that Fakorede was neither an electoral officer nor the Rivers State Commissioner of Police during elections.

Highlighting his professional record, the Alliance described CP Fakorede as a lawyer and a disciplined officer whose appointment as head of the IGP Monitoring Unit was a clear endorsement of his competence and integrity.

The group also clarified that Fakorede has not taken sides in the River Park Estate dispute or any other matter, insisting that his record remains unblemished.

The South West Youth Alliance urged Nigerians to disregard Wike’s allegations, which it said were rooted in “bitterness against Fakorede’s principled stand against corruption and electoral malpractice.”
