South West Youth Alliance Defends CP Moshood Jimoh Over Alleged Interference In Akingboye Murder Probe

The South West Youth Alliance has refuted what it described as a misleading and malicious claim by Mr Samuel Akingboye, the eldest son of the late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, accusing the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, of jeopardising the ongoing investigation into his father’s death.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Adenika Ajanlekoko, on Thursday, the group described the allegation as baseless, unfounded, and mischievous. It said, contrary to Mr Akingboye’s insinuation, CP Moshood Jimoh has demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and transparency since assuming oversight of the case.

“It is simply untrue that the case ‘began to change course’ when CP Jimoh got involved. On the contrary, his intervention brought renewed vigour and accountability to the process. Upon completion of the autopsy, he duly communicated the findings to all parties concerned,” the statement read in part.

The group further disclosed that credible information from within the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) confirms that all case files and investigative updates have been forwarded to the DPP for legal review and advice, an indication that due process is being followed.

“The narrative that CP Jimoh is manipulating the case or stalling justice is a fabrication aimed at tarnishing the image of a diligent and upright police officer,” SWYA stated.

The Alliance urged the public to disregard what it termed “falsehoods designed to mislead and stir unnecessary controversy”, stressing that police investigations are guided strictly by evidence and procedure, not media sensationalism.

“Taking a matter still under investigation to the press is neither proper nor responsible; it only seeks to influence public perception and obstruct justice,” the statement added.

The South West Youth Alliance reaffirmed its confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and commended CP Moshood Jimoh for his integrity, fairness, and commitment to justice.
