……Says Police not plotting to detain TikToker, Seaking
The South West Youth Alliance has warned self-acclaimed human rights activist Omoyele Sowore against raising false alarms about detaining TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, commonly known as @Seaking303.
The SWYA, in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Taiwo Adegbenga, advised the Nigeria police to prosecute Omoyele Sowore for raising a false alarm
The statement read, “Section 59 of the Criminal Code addresses publishing false statements that cause fear and alarm. The penalty is imprisonment for up to three years.
The Alliance noted that false alarms put unnecessary fears in the minds of the people, and such must stop henceforth.
“False Alarm from Omoyele Sowore has now become a negative trend, which is fast becoming a habit of the so-called human rights activist.
“It was public knowledge that Omoyele Sowore was invited by the Nigeria Police as a surety for a TikToker, Ogunsanwo Olumide John, commonly known as @Seaking303.
“April 14th was fixed for Omoyele Sowore to appear before the FID, but he shifted the invitation extended to him to Monday, April 21, 2025, but considering that Monday is a public holiday for Easter Monday, the Nigeria police agreed with Omoyele Sowore to postpone the invitation until Friday.
“Unfortunately, Omoyele Sowore mischievously, in a post shared via his verified X handle on Saturday, said, “I know the trick by the @PoliceNG in inviting @seaking303 on Friday is to detain him and ensure he’s not free until the following week.”
“We wish to state that the Nigeria police don’t have any reason to detain TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, except Omoyele Sowore has a course for the Nigeria police to detain him, Adegbenga said.
“We strongly condemned the proposed baseless protest by Omoyele Sowore, as he has turned such a protest into a money-making scheme from his foreign donors.
“To show Nigerians that the whole protest is a cash-out plan, why can’t Omoyele Sowore approach the law court on the tenure of IGP Egbetokun instead of ranting on social media daily? Why has Omoyele Sowore not also approached the law court over the so-called “abuse of the Cybercrime Act to arrest critics” and the shrinking civic space in Nigeria?
The South West Youth Alliance warned alarmist Omoyele Sowore to desist or face the full wrath of the law, as the SWYA will not fold its hands and allow such evil to fester.
