In 2015, former President Muhammadu Buhari, at the National Security Summit, approved the yearly recruitment of 10,000 policemen into the nation’s police force to reinforce the Nigeria Police for better service.

The screening exercise for the 2022 Constable Recruitment exercise took place between the 8th and 29th of January 2024 in all states of the Federation and FCT Abuja.

After several controversies by the former PSC Chairman, Solomon Arase, the Police Service Commission finally announced its Recruitment Board has approved the 10th of August 2024 for the commencement of training for successful applicants of the 2022 Constable Recruitment exercise.

Specialist applicants are, however, to resume training two months after that of their general duty counterparts.

On 23rd January 2025, the passing-out parade ceremony of the 2022 batch of police recruits was held at all police training schools across the country.

The 2022 batch of police recruits was based on merit and respect for the Federal Character principles.

During the ceremony, the IGP said that the passing out marks the culmination of rigorous physical, intellectual, and emotional preparation aimed at transforming these young Nigerians from civilians into professional police officers equipped to handle the demands of modern policing.

“It is a testimony to their determination and the quality of the training program, IGP Egbetokun said.

He also issued a stern warning to newly recruited constables, stressing that any abuse of public trust or unprofessional conduct would lead to severe consequences.

“The role of a police officer demands empathy and compassion, particularly towards the vulnerable, while maintaining firmness and fairness in all interactions,” he noted.

Egbetokun described the ceremony as a milestone in the government’s security reforms, urging the constables to remain professional and dedicated to their duties while fostering trust and collaboration with the public.

I would like to take this medium to extend my heartfelt commendations to the esteemed Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for the successful passing out of police recruits.

Today’s passing-out ceremony truly highlighted the dedication, commitment, and exceptional leadership exhibited under the guidance of IGP Kayode Egbetokun

It is a testament to the rigorous training, mentorship, and support provided by the Inspector General of Police and his management team. The 2022 Constable Recruits showcased exemplary discipline, professionalism, and readiness to serve and protect the community.

Egbetokun’s vision and strategic planning have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping the calibre of recruits that passed out today.

By emphasising values such as integrity, respect for diversity, and a commitment to upholding the law, the Inspector General of Police has instilled a sense of purpose and duty in the new recruits, ensuring they will serve as effective and ethical law enforcement officers.

Furthermore, the Inspector General of Police’s emphasis on continuous learning and improvement has prepared the new recruits to adapt to the dynamic challenges of modern policing.

By providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources, the IGP has equipped these recruits to navigate complex situations with confidence and professionalism.

In conclusion, the successful passing out of police recruits is a shining example of the outstanding leadership and mentorship provided by IGP Egbetokun.

Their unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and service to the community is truly commendable and sets a high standard for law enforcement agencies nationwide.

As the 2022 batch of police recruits embark on a fulfilling journey of service to their Fatherland, I extend my congratulations and welcome them into the Nigeria Police family.
