The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a firearm in Lafia, the state capital.

According to a press release on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, signed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, on July 8, 2025, at about 12:10 am, while on routine patrol behind the A.A. Rano Gas Plant in Lafia, operatives from Ombi 1 Division intercepted three young men dressed in red clothing—a common symbol associated with cult activities.

Upon sighting the police patrol team, the suspects took to their heels. The officers gave chase and successfully apprehended one of the suspects, Hassan Isah Sidi, 38 years old, of Millionaires Quarters, Lafia.

A thorough search of the suspect led to the recovery of one English-made pistol and criminal charms believed to be used for unlawful activities. Efforts are currently ongoing to track down and arrest the two fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the patrol team for their vigilance and swift response, and he reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of cultism and related crimes.

The public is urged to remain law-abiding and security-conscious and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
