The South West Youth Alliance has cautioned a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over his spiteful statement against the Nigeria Police as well as the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Reacting to Sowore’s statement on his personal X handle, the Publicity Director of the Alliance, Olufunke Ajanlekoko, said that the Nigeria police under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun will never relent on its duty of preventing and detecting crime, apprehending offenders, preserving law and order, protecting life and property, and enforcing laws and regulations despite the spiteful statement coming from the failed presidential candidate.
“It is high time we school the failed presidential candidate that it takes collective effort for the Nigeria police to fulfil its duty to protect citizens. That is the essence of having outposts, divisions, area commands, commands, and zonal commands before the various special units at the Force headquarters.
“We understand the frustration of the failed presidential candidate; IGP Egbetokun will never give attention to a nuisance who is acting the script of some unscrupulous elements eyeing the office of the Inspector General of Police.
“If the failed presidential candidate believes that Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is in office illegally, we challenge him to approach the law court instead of ranting and displaying his ignorance on social media, Ajanlekoko said.
“Omoyele Sowore by now should be facing prosecution for malicious blackmail, calculated character assassination and planting seeds of disdain and despair in the minds of police personnel, turning them against the Inspector General of Police.
“Sowore’s criticisms of the Nigeria police were not borne of patriotism but of personal bitterness and a bloated sense of self-righteousness, Ajanlekoko stated.
“Sowore has made a career of malicious blackmail, targeting individuals and institutions with reckless abandon. There is no doubt that Sowore has substituted sincerity with sensationalism.
In conclusion, Ajanlekoko calls for the immediate investigation and prosecution of Omoyele Sowore for cyber libel, wilful misinformation, incitement, and calculated character assassination. Freedom of speech was never meant to be a weapon of social sabotage.
