SWYA Commends Nigeria Police For Professional Handling Of Sowore’s Protest

The South West Youth Alliance (SWYA) has lauded the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism in managing the recent protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore, which was ostensibly organised to advocate for improved police welfare.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Director, Adenike Ajanlekoko, the youth group praised the police for showing “remarkable restraint, maturity, and adherence to the rule of law” in the face of what it described as a protest marked by “provocative tone and politically charged rhetoric.”

SWYA emphasised that while it upholds the constitutional right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, it questioned the timing and intent of the demonstration, which it said appeared to be politically motivated rather than a genuine campaign for police welfare.

“The nature and timing of Sowore’s protest raised legitimate questions about the true intent behind the action,” the group stated. “Nevertheless, the Nigeria Police Force rose above the distractions, ensuring that public peace and security were not compromised.”

The group commended the conduct of the officers on duty during the protest, noting that their disciplined approach and avoidance of confrontation reflect the improving standards of the Force under its current leadership.

SWYA urged civic leaders, youth groups, and political actors to emulate the professionalism exhibited by the police and promote engagements that foster national unity and institutional respect.

“The South West Youth Alliance remains committed to supporting constructive dialogue, good governance, and responsible civic participation that advances the collective interests of the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
