The South West Youth Alliance has knocked one Barrister Maxwell Opara for dragging the name of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in a land case.
Reacting to a publication by Sahara Reporters titled “Land Fraud Scandal: 79-Year-Old Widow Accuses Police IG Egbetokun of Shielding Suspect From Prosecution,” the Publicity Director of the SWYA, Adenike Ajanlekoko, said that IGP Egbetokun is too busy to be shielding one Rebecca Omokamo Godwin Isaac, also known as Becky or Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, from investigation and prosecution over alleged land fraud.
“Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is busy with commissioning state-of-the-art operational vehicles and taking delivery of Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAVs) from the Ministry of Police Affairs, etc., so we wondered where he has the time to shield anybody from investigation and prosecution.
“It is unfortunate that despite the repeated denial of any connection between the IGP and Bilikisu by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Barrister keeps linking the IGP with Bilikisu. Adenike Ajanlekoko further called on one Barrister Maxwell Opara to show concrete evidence that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is shielding Bilikisu with official protection.
“We found this allegation from a supposed Barrister to be a mischievous and orchestrated plan to drag the name of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, into a matter he does not know of.
“We wondered how a Barrister could allege that the IGP is using his office to shield Rebecca (Becky) from arrest and investigation. How can an IGP who is busy creating a police force that is not only numerically strong but also more professional, service-driven, rule of law compliant, and community-oriented interfere with the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)? Ajanlekoko wondered!
“The IGP doesn’t give police protection; rather, the Special Protection Unit does that, so therefore, it is mischievous of a Barrister to say that Rebecca is having ‘full police protection on the IGP’s orders’.
“In conclusion, Inspector General of Police, IGP Egbetokun, does not interfere in cases under investigation nor in law court; we therefore call on the so-called Barrister to stop maligning the reputation of Inspector General of Police, Ajanlekoko said.
