SWYA Debunks Fake Report On CP Jimoh Moshood’s Promotion, Accuses Sahara Reporters Of Blackmail

The South West Youth Alliance (SWYA) has dismissed as false and mischievous a report published by Sahara Reporters alleging that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh Moshood, bribed the former Police Service Commission (PSC) Chairman, Sir Mike Okiro, with millions of naira to secure an undeserved promotion during his tenure as Force Public Relations Officer.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Adenike Ajanlekoko, and released on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the group described the publication as a “baseless and malicious fabrication” aimed at tarnishing the image of a disciplined and accomplished police officer.

The SWYA maintained that there is no evidence whatsoever linking CP Jimoh Moshood to any form of bribery or misconduct, adding that the Nigeria Police Service Commission never promoted him based on influence or financial inducement.

“It is on record that since 2018, no committee, investigative panel, or administrative review has found CP Jimoh Moshood guilty of any wrongdoing,” the statement read.

“The recent attempt to drag his name into a fake ‘promotion scam’ is simply Sahara Reporters’ trademark blackmail, publishing unverified and sensational stories to malign hardworking Nigerians.”

The group also faulted Sahara Reporters’ claim of a leaked phone conversation between a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dauda, and the former PSC Chairman, Mr. Okiro, pointing out that the said audio never mentioned CP Jimoh Moshood’s name, contrary to the online platform’s misleading interpretation.

Calling on the public to disregard the report, SWYA accused Sahara Reporters of attempting to divert attention from the recent controversies surrounding its founder, Omoyele Sowore, who has been accused of instigating chaos and causing economic disruption on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.

The group further urged journalists and media platforms to uphold ethical standards by verifying facts before publication and avoid being used as instruments of character assassination.

“CP Jimoh Moshood remains a professional, law-abiding, and dedicated officer committed to ensuring the safety and security of Lagos residents,” SWYA stated. “No amount of blackmail or fake news will deter him from serving with integrity.”
