SWYA Excoriates Sahara Reporters; Says IGP Egbetokun Not Associated With Contract Splits

The South West Youth Alliance has lambasted an online medium, Sahara Reporters, for parading fake contract papers claiming that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, split a ₦6 billion police uniform contract into 66 smaller contracts and awarded all of them to a single company with known links to him, in apparent violation of the Public Procurement Act.

In response to the false publication by a serial online misinformation outlet, the alliance’s publicity director, Adenike Ajanlekoko, clarified that there was no contract splitting as alleged in the misleading report.

“According to our discreet investigation, the documents published by Sahara Reporters were fabricated, and there is no evidence that IGP Kayode Egbetokun sidestepped statutory procedures by deliberately splitting the contract into 66 parts to bypass procurement regulations.

“In fact, out of all published documents, there is no one showing that the IGP “overruled the concerns raised by the Director of Finance and Accounts,” as all we can see is the name and signature of one Assistant Inspector General, AIG Adepoju A. Ilori (PAB).

“We challenge Sahara Reporters to publish any approval carrying the signature of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

“We all know that IGP Kayode Egbetokun is a man of accountability and transparency; he will never be involved in anything that will tarnish his reputation. The IGP can never go beyond his approved threshold of N100 million, and he knows that anything above his threshold goes to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval.

“IGP Egbetokun cannot stoop low to split a ₦6 billion police uniform contract into 66 smaller contracts and award all of them to a single company with known links to him, the statement said.
