Bauchi State Police Command said that Twenty-One passengers were burnt beyond recognition on Thursday, 23rd March 2023 at Udubo village-Gamawa LGA of Bauchi State.
According to a press release on Friday, 24th March 2023 signed by the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said that “on Thursday, 23/03/2023 at about 1433hrs a report received from the divisional police officer, Gamawa division revealed that on the same date at about 1400hrs there occurred a lone fatal motor vehicle accident involving 18-seater Hummer bus, ash in colour with registration no. JMA 59 XA, driven by yet to be identified driver was coming from Hadeja-Jigawa State to Maiduguri-Borno State.
The statement read, “On reaching Udubo village-Gamawa LGA, the right front tyre of the vehicle burst, as a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the side of the road, and hit four persons sitting beside the road.
“Later, the victims were identified as; Inspector Dauda Adamu attached to Police Mobile Force (10PMF) Bauchi, Sanusi Yusuf aged 42yrs, Mohd Sule aged 37yrs and Mohd Kawule aged 45yrs all ‘m’ of Udubo village sustained serious injuries.
“Consequently, the vehicle burst into flame with twenty-one (21) passengers on board. On receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to the FMC Azare for medical attention where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“The corpses were later released to their family for burial. However, the twenty-one (21) other corpses burnt beyond recognition were taken and deposited at the general hospital Hadeja.
“Furthermore, the Mobile Personnel identified passed away while receiving treatment at Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) commiserates with the family on this irreplaceable loss.
“He also prays for the departed souls to continue to rest in peace.
