PDP would have made a powerful opposition party in Gombe State, but regrettably, some factors have rendered the party too lean to even maintain its internal cohesion talk less of having the impetus to face the incumbent APC.
Many PDP members, supporters, and stakeholders were taken aback by Senator Danjuma Goje’s calculated and thoughtful refusal to join the umbrella bandwagon. This eleventh-hour decision successfully threw Gombe PDP into a racketing tumult that left the party as blind as a bat.
Another hot blow that sent the PDP into the protracted comma it is in is Jamilu Ishiaku Gwamna’s shocking defeat at the Gombe PDP gubernatorial primaries which virtually retired many party’s stakeholders in Gombe.
This is another difficult task that PDP is yet to handle efficiently. Dr. Jamilu Gwamna has a strong grassroots support and political structure perhaps better than the PDP’s gubernatorial flag bearer, but he and his supporters are suffering incarceration and threat all to compel them to pledge allegiance and support Dan Barde’s candidature, the action that is forcing most of them to look for alternatives.
We await the 3rd factor which will send the umbrella party to its grave which is seemingly looming in the days coming after which Dan Maje’s victorious ship will sail smoothly through comes 2023 general elections.
PDP in Gombe State is now a broken ship that could not save itself from sinking talk less of sailing to the shores.
