Veritas University says it awaits the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s to introduce courses such as Medicine, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences as new programmes in the school
The University also stated that foreign languages such as French, Chinese, Spanish and other European and Asian languages would soon be integrated into the school programmes.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Fr. Hyacinth Ichoku disclosed these to journalists on Wednesday, in Abuja, at a pre-convocation address to mark the school’s 10th Convocation ceremony scheduled to hold on Saturday, Jan. 29
Ichoku also disclosed that Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, would graduate 331 students from its previous academic session, out of which 30 made First Class Honours.
He added that the Students, including 60 Post-graduates, had completed their studies and had been certified by the school for the ceremony.
“The number of graduating students from both Undergraduate and Post- graduate classes are about 331 of which 60, out the number are from the postgraduate class”
“Out of all these numbers, we have 30 students graduating with First Class Honours, 151 in Second Class Upper, 130 in Second Class Lower and 50 made Third class.”
He said that the school worked very hard to make sure it’s students put in their best academically, intellectually and morally.
The vice chancellor, while appreciating the efforts put by staff and the Convocation Committee to ensure a successful event, also said that a number of projects would also be commissioned on same day.
These projects, he mentioned included a new male hostel, a female hostel and a clinic.
He noted that the school had made significant progress in the past year, while adding that it has not relent in its effort to meet the needs of prospective students.
According to Fr. Ichoku, “With regards to introducing foreign language courses, we are still making efforts in that direction. We are in contact with relevant Embassies which we have written proposals on sponsorship to.
“We have not given up on it and I am glad to inform you that we are receiving positive responses in that direction.”
According to Ichoku, the school has up to 32 undergraduate progammes and 18 Post-graduate programmes which he added, were under Faculty of Education, Management, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering.
Others, he said, included the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Law.
He added that Economics and Political science progammes were already running under the school’s postgraduate courses.
Veritas University Abuja now has a total number of 3000 undergraduate students
