The Women Arise for Change Initiative, a women’s rights protection, promotion, and projection non-governmental organization established in March 2003 have expressed its happiness over the revolutionary, socio-cultural engendering bill signed into law by the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to a press release on Friday, 2nd December 2022 signed by the President of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said that the bill which would see Abia women inherit and own properties in their father’s family- ‘The Female Persons Rights of Inheritance of Property Law 2022’ is one of the most fulfilling achievements of the governor for us at Women Arise given our ideals and thematic area.
“We commend the legislative arm of the government of the state for their contribution to women’s rights protection which eradicates situations where women are treated as second-class citizens in their families.
“Women’s rights protection is one of the pillars for the attainment of a fairer society. We are optimistic that other anti-women’s rights practices in Nigeria and Africa as a whole will be relegated to the background in no time if we do not relent in our progressive and holistic development causes.
