Zamfara State Governor Visits DG NEMA, Solicits More Relief Supports For IDPs

The Governor of Zamfara State Dr Dauda Lawal Dare on Friday paid a visit to the Head Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja where he was received by Director General Mustapha Habib Ahmed.

A statement on Friday, 18th August 2023 signed by the Head, Press Unit, NEMA, Mr Manzo Ezekiel, said that the Governor of Zamfara State said he was at the NEMA Head office in Abuja to appreciate the Agency for various humanitarian supports delivered to disaster victims in the state.

However, he said recent bandit attacks on some communities and other disaster incidents have resulted in the displacement of persons and affected the livelihoods of the people, which have created humanitarian situations that require more support from NEMA. Therefore, he requested that the Agency should further support the displaced persons in the state with relief assistance to cater to their basic needs and livelihood items for their economic empowerment.

The Governor said though the security problem and consequent humanitarian situation existed before his coming to office, he will do everything possible to find solutions and restore normalcy to the troubled areas in the state.

Responding, the Director General NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed appreciated the Governor for acknowledging the various humanitarian interventions by NEMA on behalf of the Federal Government in Zamfara State.

He said, “We are here for the sake of the distressed and we will do everything possible within our mandates and resources to support Nigerians in all the 36 states and FCT.”

The DG NEMA said the Agency is currently distributing special relief intervention approved by the Federal Government under the Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) for households affected by the 2022 flood and those classified as most vulnerable in all 36 states and the FCT.

He assured the Zamfara State Governor that staff of the Agency will be deployed to conduct an assessment to determine the required humanitarian intervention accordingly.

The DG NEMA was joined by the Director of Search and Rescue Air Commodore Kennedy Mataluwo, Director of Planning Research and Forecasting Dr Onimode Bandele Abdullahi, Ag Director Relief and Rehabilitation Alh Adamu Abdullahi Usur, and Special Assistant to the DG Mr Idris Abubakar Mohammed in receiving the Zamfara State Governor.
