Zone 7 AIG Commends FCT Police For Foiling Kidnap Attempt In Bwari, Mourns Fallen Officer

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has lauded the swift and courageous response of operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, who successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto village, Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025.

According to a statement signed by ASP Mohammed Halima, Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, a distress call was received at about 1:10 a.m., alerting the Command that a group of about 30 armed criminals had stormed the community with the intention of abducting a resident and his family. The Bwari Division Surveillance Team, supported by the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS), immediately mobilised to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers came under heavy gunfire from the attackers but responded with what authorities described as superior firepower. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the assailants were neutralised, while the rest escaped into nearby bushes and hilly terrain.

The operation, however, came at a cost. One police officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. AIG Olaiya expressed deep sadness over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family, colleagues, and friends, noting that the fallen operative “paid the supreme price in service to the nation.”

The AIG also commended the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, for promptly deploying additional personnel to stabilise the area and restore public confidence. He further directed that intensified investigative efforts continue to ensure the fleeing suspects are tracked down and brought to justice.

AIG Olaiya reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly within Zone 7, to the protection of lives and property across the FCT and neighbouring communities.
