….Reiterates ban on State-owned/quasi-security outfits, escorts, and VIP rides on Election Day.
The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Oqua Etim has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement and other means of transportation within the State, from midnight of Saturday, 18th March 2023 to 6 pm on the same day, except those on essential services such as INEC officials, electoral observers, accredited media, local and international observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, etc ahead of the forthcoming Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday in the State,
A statement signed by the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, said that similarly, the Commissioner of Police re-affirms the ban on escort and security aides to VIPs from accompanying their principal, and politicians to polling booths and collation centers and any person or group of persons found violating this directive will be sanctioned accordingly. State-established and owned security outfits/quasi-security units, and privately-owned security guards are also barred from participating in the forthcoming gubernatorial election security.
The CP appreciated the good people of the state for their cooperation during the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections and urged them to comply with the movement restriction order.
The Police Commissioner admonished all eligible electorates to turn out en mass and exercise their civic responsibility as the Command assures them of adequate security coverage and equally enjoins the good people of the State to desist from spreading fake, unverified, and misleading information capable of disrupting the peace in the State.
