…… Assures of a peaceful New Year celebration
The anti-one chance clearance squad of the FCT Police Command while clamping down on one chance elements impounded seventeen vehicles without number plates and with tinted glasses.
This was disclosed on Friday, December 29, 2023, by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna G. Garba while parading suspected one-chance, kidnappers/informants, and rapists at the FCT Police Command Headquarters.
The CP said that the operators of these vehicles are currently being interrogated to determine their culpability in the one-chance activities while those found culpable at the end of the investigation will be charged to court.
Recall that on 28th November 2023, the FCT Police Command recorded the following successes: the arrest of 11 one-chance suspects, 7 suspected Kidnappers/Informants, 3 stolen vehicles, 5 firearms, and 30 ammunition while 1 kidnapper was neutralized.
As of Friday, the command paraded 9 one chance suspects while 5 stolen vehicles and 5 firearms were recovered. The total number of armed robbery suspects arrested was 12 while rape suspects were 2. The total number of ammunition recovered stood at 12.
The CP further said that going by the above analysis, the crime rate in the Federal Capital Territory has dropped immensely.
“I wish to bring to the attention of the public that, there are some mischief-makers out there posting items on social media that the FCT is not safe, that one chance operators have taken over the FCT. This is not true.
“I can say without any fear of contradiction that FCT is the safest city in Nigeria. Many Nigerians are coming in droves to FCT to reside and do business due to prevailing peace and security in the city. It is unfortunate for someone to leverage the use of social media/ media platforms to misinform the entire populace that FCT is not safe.
“I wish to remind these people that Nigeria is the only country that we can call our own but not to run it down. What this manner of people are doing is to create fear and apprehension in the minds of the people and of course, the investors who may want to come to Nigeria to invest, CP Haruna Garba said.
He further said that the same strategies that were put in place during the Christmas period, which was celebrated peacefully without any serious security breach, will be replicated during the New Year festival.
