Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has again made case for indigenes of the state to be employed to man the Akurba power substation when completed.
Engineer Sule restated his case while inspecting ongoing work on the site of the project, on Wednesday.
According to the Governor, it will be far convenient for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the firm handling the Akurba power plant to employ indigenes mostly from Akurba, Adogi, Lafia and neighbouring communities, especially when recruiting operators to man the station.
“This will solve the problems of accommodation and transportation as these employees will be coming to work from home,” Engineer Sule said.
To further press in this demand, the Governor promised to reach out to the management of the TCN, with a view to impressing on them the need to employ and train indigenes around the power plant, who will man the station.
The Akurba power substation, which is presently at 95 percent completion, is expected to come onboard few months from now and when fully operational, will solve the prolonged power problem not only in Lafia but other parts of the state.
