The Election Coordinating Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, AIG Aishatu Abubakar, has called on police personnel and other security agencies to show responsibility and ensure the electoral process is secured, safe, and credible.
She spoke on Friday before the deployments of the election security personnel to the various sectors across the FCT.
She advised the police personnel not to be partisan, to protect lives and property, and to ensure that all citizens conduct their civil rights without fear and intimidation.
“Be mindful of the vulnerable and people living with disabilities in the discharge of your duty,” she said.
She also urged them to read and digest the “Revised Standard Operational Guidelines and Rules for Police Officers and Other Law Enforcement Agents on Election Security Duties.”
She said that the handbook is a valuable operational companion that could act as a standard in holding them accountable in the line of their electoral duties, as all hands must be on deck to actualize the mandate and commitment of the NPF to have free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
In his remark, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar, said, “The NPF and, of course, other security agencies that are supporting agencies are fully ready for the conduct of the elections.” Also, the welfare and allowances of our officers are available, and they’ll receive them.
Recall that the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar, said on Thursday that 17,401 personnel would be deployed for the presidential and national assembly elections slated for Saturday in Abuja.
