ATAF And The Commonwealth Sign Cooperation Agreement

ATAF and CATA said the MOU will aim to strengthen their partnership, cooperation, and interaction in efforts to advance sound tax policies and administrative practices among their members through targeted interventions.

The Cooperation Agreement was signed by the ATAF Executive Secretary, Mr. Logan Wort, and his Counterpart CATA Executive Director, Mr. Duncun Onduru. This was witnessed by the event Host, FIRS, Executive Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami who is the current CATA President and ATAF Council Member as well as, The Gambia Commissioner General, Mr. Yankuba Darboe, WATAF Chairman and ATAF Council Member.

The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) and the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) have signed a cooperation agreement, on the margins of the 42nd CATA Technical Conference taking place in Abuja, Nigeria hosted by the Federal Inland Revenue Services ( FIRS).

The two partnering organizations said the MOU was a culmination of their long-existing cooperation. The agreement will aim to strengthen their partnership, cooperation, and interaction in efforts to advance sound tax policies and administrative practices among their members through targeted interventions.

Both ATAF and CATA aim to promote fair, effective, and efficient tax systems and economic governance strategies to improve domestic resource mobilization for their members.

CATA Executive Director Mr. Duncun Onduru stated that “The collaboration between CATA and ATAF will extend to the broader outreach of all members on common areas of interest, where we will leverage on the partnership, technology, public policy support, technical assistance, and joint innovation. Through such initiatives, we can achieve sustainable economic development through the role of taxation.”

ATAF Executive Secretary Mr. Logan Wort welcomed the cooperation saying, “ ATAF will share in expertise to promote innovative tax system solutions to improve revenue collection amongst the wider membership of our two organizations” he further stated that ATAF will continue to work closely with CATA towards revenue mobilization strategies through taxation that will foster economic growth and social development in the interest and wellbeing of all citizens in our joint jurisdictions.”
