The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has issued a stern condemnation of the recent statement by the Northern Elders Forum expressing regret over the election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential election.
In a press statement released Saturday, the CD through its General Secretary, Olufemi Lawson, voiced its unequivocal support for the position articulated by the Minister of State for Defense, Honorable Muhammed Bello Matawalle, emphasizing that the collective vote of all Nigerians, rather than any single region, determines the outcome of presidential elections.
Describing the stance of the Northern Elders Forum as hasty, unpatriotic, and potentially destabilizing, the CD underscored the importance of fostering unity and cooperation among all regions of the country. The CD emphasized that divisive rhetoric only serves to undermine national cohesion and exacerbate existing tensions.
In light of Minister Bello Matawalle’s steadfast commitment to national unity and his role as a pan-Nigerian leader, the CD called upon him to continue championing the cause of unity while rallying the support of patriotic leaders from the northern region. The CD stressed the importance of collaborative efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and progress across Nigeria.
As the nation navigates through various challenges, the CD reiterated its call for dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect among all stakeholders. The CD emphasized the need for constructive engagement and collective action to address pressing issues facing the country and pave the way for a brighter future for all Nigerians.
