The operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two robbery suspects who participated in the robbery attacks of some students of Western Delta University.
SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command confirmed the arrest.
The police alleged that two belong to a 6-man gang, which also attacks and robs churches and warehouses in the state.
Also arrested were two suspects for allegedly receiving the robbery loot from the gang.
Edafe said that following the armed robbery operations carried out by suspected armed robbers at the Western Delta University, Oghara, on June 20, 2024, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi directed that the case be transferred to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ekpan Division; CSP Aliyu Shaba, for a discreet investigation.
According to the police image maker, the DPO in compliance with the CP’s directive, swiftly embarked on an intelligence-led operation adding that on June 24, 2024, at about 6.30 pm, he trailed the suspects to a hotel in Aziza Junction, Sapele Road, where one Okoro Udochukwu, a 36-year-old man from Ore II Community and Sunday Dickson (male), 32, of Ore II Community were arrested.
The duo according to him, are members of the six-man gang terrorising Warri, Sapele, Oghara and other parts of Delta State.
He said that they specialized in breaking into churches, companies and warehouses, while armed with guns.
Edafe said that a preliminary investigation revealed that on May 26, 2024, they allegedly robbed a warehouse in Warri and stole 120 bags of rice and sold some of them.
The suspects, according to him, led the police to the arrest of one Arinze Ezisi, a 44-year-old man from Okumaga community, and one Titus Chinedu, (male) 47, of Okumaga community.
The two were said to be the receivers of all the stolen goods.
He said that a diligent search was conducted at their stores/houses, which led to the recovery of 38 bags of rice, one silver crest blender, one inverter engine with two inverter batteries, three sharp photocopying machines and two sharp standing ACs, five LG Homes-Theaters, one Hisense air conditioner; three intercom machine, one 50 inches black LG television; two shovels one black Hisense speaker, eight yards of armoured cable; six generators, five stabilisers three Kenstar A/C; two Hisense standing AC, three Hisense inverter AC; peculiar professional mixer, three Kenstar standing AC one Panasonic AC, one pumping machine; five sound prinex, one Yamaha piano; five gas cylinders, twenty-one amplifiers; four guitars, four LG speakers; five microwave, two MP3; one OX standing fan, three cushion chairs, one large vita foam mattress and a large quantity of copper.
“They carry out these operations using two sienna vehicles and one shuttle bus which they use to carry the stolen item. Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang, and recover their operational vehicle,” Edafe said.
