The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years, has said that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is not involved in stonewalling enforcement of any court order.
Reacting to a publication in an online medium titled “Police accused of blocking EFCC from enforcing court order against IG Egbetokun’s female friend enmeshed in land-grabbing scandal,” the Secretary General of the Alliance, Danjuma Lamido, said that it is unscrupulous for a media outfit to say, “Nigeria Police is blocking EFCC from enforcing court order against IG Egbetokun’s female friend enmeshed in land-grabbing scandal.”.
The statement read, “IGP Egbetokun is a man who possesses unwavering integrity as well as inspires confidence and maintains credibility. There is no doubt that he consistently upholds his values and principles; therefore, he can never obstruct the EFCC from enforcing court orders.
“It is also on record that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, through the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has warned officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against using his name for extortion and other corrupt practices.
“Therefore, it is ridiculous for a media outfit to link the stonewalling and enforcement of a court order to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
“It is also on record that the IGP on several occasions reassured the public of the force’s commitment, under his watch, to root out misconduct and ensure accountability at all levels as he urged Nigerians to promptly report any incidents of extortion or fraudulent activity, providing detailed information to facilitate thorough investigations that will lead to severe sanctions for erring officers.
“We find it ridiculous that a media outfit could say that “despite several petitions to the IGP’s office, the IGP and police refused to act. We challenge the Yesufu family to show Nigerians copies of the ‘several petitions against Ms Aliyu and her firm, Homadil Reality Limited,’ that the Nigeria police refused to act on.
“The IGP is too busy to be interfering in a land matter, and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015 excludes the police from civil disputes. We, therefore, challenge the media outfit to show proof that the IGP ordered the trespassers released within 30 minutes on the disputed land.
“The Nigeria Police under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun will never aide or interfere in cases before the Law Court; therefore, it is baseless to have said that ‘the suspect, aided by the police under IGP Egbetokun, wiped off all the EFCC markings and continued developing the land in defiance of the FCTA, the courts, and the EFCC, the statement concluded.
