….Says election not do or die affair
….Reassures of adequate security and a level playing ground for all actors
In a bid to actualize a peaceful and secure atmosphere during the 2023 General Elections in Enugu State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani on Thursday, 9th February 2023, convened a Peace Accord signing Meeting for leaders of Political Parties and their Candidates for the Governorship, Senatorial, Federal House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly positions.
According to a press release signed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that the Commissioner, while welcoming the political actors and guests to the Meeting, emphasized that the Peace Accord signing was aimed at eliciting the sincere commitment of the Political Parties and their Candidates, to abide by the extant laws guiding their electioneering activities, especially as contained in the 2022 Electoral Act.
The CP noted that the Parties and their Candidates constitute one of the most critical direct actors in the Elections. He reiterated that election is never a do-or-die affair while charging the eventual winners in the forthcoming polls to be magnanimous in victory and the losers to be gracious in defeat.
CP Ammani equally reassured all and sundry of the readiness of the Police, in active collaboration with other security agencies, to be non-partisan and provide a level playing ground for the political actors to carry out their legitimate electioneering activities before, during and after the Elections.
The event was attended by the State’s INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Chukwu Chukwuemeka, Chairman of Enugu State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Edwin Alor, Heads other Security Agencies, is Chairman of Enugu State Security and Peace Committee, HRH Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu, and the Chairman of Enugu State Peace and Development Outreach, HRH Igwe John Ibe, among other dignitaries. This is in addition to the leadership and members of various Political Parties, who attended the event alongside the Candidates for the signing of the Peace Accord.
