The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday convened a technical meeting of humanitarian sectors to discuss their levels of activation, and challenges, and identify the way forward towards efficient sectoral interventions in the flood situation across the country.
Addressing the meeting in Abuja, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research, and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Abdullahi Bandele, in declaring the meeting, said the objective was also to coordinate responses and harmonise data for optimal resource utilisation and efficiency.
She urged the sectoral leads to work with other members of their sectors in activating to respond to the relevant areas of challenge faced by flood-impacted communities.
The DG NEMA affirmed the commitment of the agency to effectively carry out its coordination roles in disaster management.
The technical meeting was conceived in line with the coordination roles of NEMA and recognition of collective responsibilities towards safeguarding lives, properties, and livelihoods, with a strong commitment to action.
