Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and well-being of workers in Gombe State, emphasizing that his administration recognizes the importance of a fair and adequate wage.
In a press release on Wednesday, 1st May 2024 signed by the Director-General (Press Affairs) Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said that this is just as he pledged the firm disposition of his government to ensure that workers earn a living wage, expressing confidence in their resilience and dedication to supporting his efforts in building a brighter future for Gombe State.
In a goodwill message to the hardworking workforce on the auspicious occasion of the 2024 International Workers’ Day, the Governor acknowledged the invaluable contributions of organized labour and workers in general as indispensable partners in the progress and development of the State.
He noted that the theme of this year’s celebration, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” resonates deeply with the efforts of his administration to prioritize the well-being of all workers.
The Governor is proud to highlight the strides made in this regard and pledged to continue to champion initiatives that will safeguard the safety and health of every worker.
He stressed his commitment to fostering a conducive working environment and harmonious relations with the workers aimed at enhancing productivity and advancing good governance.
He expressed profound gratitude to the organized labour for their steadfast cooperation, emphasizing that their support has been instrumental in achieving significant milestones in Gombe State.
The Governor assured that the welfare of workers remains a top priority, underlined by the prompt and timely payment of salaries, wages, and pensions, as well as ongoing efforts to settle the backlog of inherited gratuity for both state and local government retirees.
He acknowledged the prevailing socio-economic challenges but called for collective sacrifice and solidarity to overcome them, emphasizing the critical role of workers in driving industrial growth, fostering ease of doing business, and advancing key sectors such as agriculture and infrastructure.
He urged workers to sustain their dedication and commitment to service delivery, assuring them of his administration’s resolve to continue to cater to their needs within the constraints of available resources.
