The Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday summoned all the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units in the State to a high-powered security meeting where a strategy was developed to make the security of the coming governorship election more effective as done during the presidential election.
A statement signed by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said that the Command’s strategic managers have been lectured on more robust ways of partnering with other agencies, INEC CSOs, and other officials during and after the elections.
He further said that the policemen on election duties have been directed to ensure that women, the elderly, and the physically challenged are preferentially treated to make them discharge their civic duties without stress on the day of the elections.
“The policemen have also been trained to be civil to voters and other election stakeholders on the day of the election.
“Consequently, every needed tool and welfare that would enhance the performances of the officers during the exercise has already been given and collected by the officers; therefore, they have no reason to be derelict, SP Okasanmi Ajayi said.
He reiterated that the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Paul Odama enjoined all and sundry to cooperate with security agencies to enable the state to bequeath an acceptable and peaceful election to the state as any person or group of persons with intent to cause the breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the election should be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.
