The Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass, has directed Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers to ensure that elections within their areas of responsibility are conducted peacefully.
According to a press release signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Anene Sewuese Catherine said that while briefing these strategic commanders in a conference, he emphasized the need to be apolitical, and courteous, but firm in carrying out their duties. He warned officers to adhere to standard operational guidelines and rules as simplified in the handbook issued to them by the Force.
The CP commended officers who arrested offenders during the Presidential/National Assembly elections, as he stated that six suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, snatching of ballot boxes, and illegal possession of nine permanent voter cards.
According to the CP, the investigation has been completed, and case diaries have been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission for further action.
The command warned intending electoral offenders to desist from such lawlessness, as the command will not tolerate any act that will affect a peaceful electoral process.
