How Mr Gov Who Had His Primary, Secondary And Tertiary Education In Ekiti, Could Within 2Yrs As Gov Become Isolated From Realities On Ground

By Abiodun Borisade,

I stand to be corrected, but when Excellency’s words are no longer to be taken hook, line and sinker, then something is amiss.

Quoting that late Yoruba political sage, “Please, and please, and please, Don’t write your name down in the list of those who may fall into the gutter on their way home….”

I’m writing this piece, not out of any misguided feelings of disgruntledness, but in fact out of concern that our ‘Ibílé star’/ ‘Home grown star’ is getting things all so wrong at this crucial moment in the developmental stage of Ekiti State.

An Accusation doesn’t confer guilt, please feel free to rebute as it pleases you…

Mr Gov sir, you have been isolated by your gatekeepers from the realities on Ekiti Street. How you will wrestle yourself away from their hold remains to be seen.

The silence by both the Legislative and Executive Arms of government on the collapsed court building wall has revealed the true disregard for “Duty of Care” for the average Citizen under this dispensation.
That accident could have happened to any ordinary citizen in the courtroom looking for justice.
No inquiry till date to restore public confidence by certifying the safety status of what remains standing of the court complex building, a school building under 3 years old had to be evacuated because of structural failure again no inquiry to investigate the seemingly defect in Ekiti Govt buildings structural integrity?

It is said that an Honourable man’s word is his bond. Esteemed sir, what changed?
The July date you publicly announced as operational take off date for Ekiti cargo airport has passed, yet no single mechanical bird has lifted or landed from that site, you also haven’t felt the need to enlighten us, your citizens on the reason for the failed date, yet more scare resources are being plundered into the white elephant project has testimony from your recently submitted 2025 budget. The state assembly is complicit if they refuse to ask these questions on behalf of those who elected them as their representatives!

I’m an imperfect being, I have my faults, so I don’t mind being criticized, hence I must also be opportuned to critique in order that our society gets the best quota from us as individuals and collectively as a bloc.

The essence of leadership is lost if we close our eyes to faults because of pecuniary gains.

No doubt, the popularity wave Governor Biodun Oyebanji rode to power appears to be waning due to the plethora of unmet expectations and baffling broken commitments that have dominated the present administration in Ekiti State. Only a few of his predecessors enjoyed the level of acceptance and recognition that Mr. Oyebanji enjoyed as the top contender for the highest office in Ekiti State when he ran against other contestants in 2022.

Needless to say, the crisis of governance in Ekiti State, as evident over the last two years, is exacerbated by a democratic culture that places insufficient emphasis on the honesty, sincerity, and competence that political leaders bring to public office.
However, Ekiti State needs an epistocratic system of governance that is founded on the credibility and pedigree of its political leaders and the education of its people, i.e., the voters. Often, the wrong choice of leaders is made by the people due to their level of education and exposure. The people of Ekiti State had passionately advocated for a homegrown governor, and now that they have one, they expect him to fulfill the electoral promises he made during and after his campaign.
Why is water not flowing in Ekiti homes as promised through a world bank assisted “Third (3rd) National Urban Water programme” which the immediate past administration undertook? Yet more scarce resources are plundered on the seemingly incompletable Ekiti Cargo Airport…

Only recently did we see a series of videos made by Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of Ayodele Fayose, who not only identified the lapses and failures of the present administration but also cataloged the unfulfilled promises of the Oyebanji-led administration in Ekiti State, which has caused untold hardship to the everyday people of Ekiti. Having tracked the electoral promises made by Governor Oyebanji, one can objectively submit that he has not fulfilled 40% of the promises he made to the Ekiti people with less than two years in office.

Below is just another “promise and fail” enterprise the government embarked Ekiti on within their first 2 years in office.

Sometimes about 26th October 2022, our number one citizen ushered in the news from the chief of airstaff that the Ekiti airport will be base for “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles”. Perhaps the Air Chief knew the airport will remain uncompleted, because two years after the visit, nothing has materialized
