IGP Egbetokun Maintains A Zero-tolerance Policy For Impunity And Corruption In The Police – Alliance

Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that says it has been monitoring the trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years, has strongly condemned a publication titled “EXCLUSIVE: Police IG Egbetokun busted for colluding with notorious cartel moving cash from CBN vault via Abuja, Lagos airports” published by an online medium, the Peoples Gazette, tagging the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, as “IG that is so blatantly corrupt.”

Reacting to the allegations, the Board Chairman of the Alliance, Comrade Adewole Kehinde said that IGP Kayode Egbetokun is the most open, honest, and accessible Inspector General of Police in the history of IG of Police.

“Unfortunately, policemen who have been indicted in criminal activities and facing prosecution could tag the Inspector General of Police as “blatantly corrupt” just to divert people’s attention from their criminal activities, Adewole said.

To really show how ignorant the so-called “senior police officer” is, the publication quoted the unnamed officer to have said, “We have reported him to the PSC.…….” We wish to reiterate that the Inspector General of Police is responsible to the President based on Section 216(2) of this Constitution.

“Based on 216(3), the President or such other Minister of the Government of the Federation as he may authorise on that behalf may give to the Inspector-General of Police such lawful directions concerning the maintenance and securing of public safety and public order as he may consider necessary, and the Inspector-General of Police shall comply with those directions or cause them to be compiled with.

Therefore, the threat to report the Inspector General of Police to the Police Service Commission is baseless and ignorant of the so-called “senior police officer.”

“IGP Egbetokun is a straightforward, discreet, candid, authentic, genuine man who would never tolerate corruption at any level.

“There is no doubt that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for extortion, impunity, and corruption from its officers, the statement concluded.
