IGP Egbetokun Presents N2.5billion Cheque To 563 Families Of Deceased Police Officers

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, on Monday, presented a total of N2.588 billion to 727 families of police officers who died in active serving between 2018/2019, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023.

The presentation which is under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme package of the Nigerian Police Force marks the third presentation in 2024 and the sixth under the current Police administration.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun who along with the Force Management Team presented cheques to some of the beneficiaries, assured that his administration remains deeply committed to the welfare of police officers and their families, and will continue to evolve and revitalize welfare schemes to ensure adequate support for the families of fallen heroes and improve the conditions under which officers serve.

He said, “To the immediate family members and next-of-kins present, we extend our deepest empathy. Your loved ones were not just officers; they were heroes who dedicated their lives to the service of our nation. While we can never fully repay the debt of gratitude we owe them, through these initiatives, we seek to honour their memory and provide some relief to you, and their families.

While sympathizing with the families of the deceased personnel, the IGP, said, “I must reiterate that the welfare of police officers remains paramount to this administration. As we endeavour to enhance the conditions under which they serve, we must also ensure that their families are not forgotten, particularly during times of need. We are committed to continually evolving new welfare schemes and revitalizing existing ones to adequately support the families of our fallen heroes while improving the service conditions of serving officers.

IGP Egbetokun extended his heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in facilitating the timely release of insurance claims. He also commended the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Force Insurance Unit for their outstanding efforts in ensuring prompt settlement of claims.

Today’s presentation brings the cumulative amount to Nine Billion, Eight Hundred and Fifty-One Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Nine Naira, Eighty-Eight Kobo (₦9,851,847,889.88) only, benefiting 3,077 families and next-of-kins since July 2023.
