I’m More Devoted To Developing Future Leaders, Says Bamidele Salam

A youth leadership boot camp organized by the National Assembly member for Ede’s federal district, Hon. Bamidele Salam started in Ede.

The program aims to train and equip teenagers for problems in the future.

Speaking with journalists, Hon. Salam said the purpose of the training is to raise future leaders, to equip them with the necessary information that will help them in their chosen careers.

He said, “The most important thing for anyone who is a leader is to work very hard to replicate more leaders. And if you see any leader whose only concern is how to win the election, the such fellow is not worthy to be a leader. Leaders think about generations.

“My most demanding task at the moment is to replicate good leadership and these young ones you are seeing here today, in another seven to ten years, are those who will be occupying these very critical positions of decision making in this country, either as professionals, as intellectuals or political leaders and whatever preparation that we give them today will go a long way in determining how well they will serve in those capacities tomorrow.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr. Buari Abiodun, said the aim of the program is targeted at exposing the teenagers to many opportunities which they may know, but as we catch them young, they will be able to get prepared for future challenges.

He said, “The aim of this program is a reorientation of our youths to prepare them for future challenges. Apart from familiarisation, this will give them the opportunity of relating with a different set of people. Also, we are going to take them through how to be financially independent.

“You will agree with me that there are a lot of opportunities through the use of social media. How best they can use the platform to their advantage, we are going to teach them. The program is well packaged that at the end of the training, they would have gained one or two things.

Two hundred teenagers from Ede South, Ede North, Egbedore, and Ejigbo local governments are expected to participate in the Bootcamp.

The 3-day event will feature sessions on Leadership, Career talks, Volunteering, Public Speaking, Healthy living, Financial Literacy, Drug abuse, SDGs, and Quiz Competition.

The Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative- Caldev, Federation of Ede-Land Students Union, Federation of Egbedore Local Government Students Association, and Ejigbo Local Government Area Students Association ELGASA are partnering with the lawmaker on the initiative.
