Imo Government Declares War On The Proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra

Obed Stephen Ogujiofor, Chiukwuma Obianeri, Gregory Onwueyiagba, Simon Ohaenwetaonwu, Chidube Akaegusi, Chidera Highman, and Nnadi Okeke, all of Orlu Local Government, Imo State, have been declared wanted by the Hope Uzodinma administration for being terrorists and active members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The Imo State Government, which declared them wanted, said that they were terrorists who had been harassing and maiming people at will and were immediately wanted in the interest of the state.

However, Obed Stephen Ogujiofor, who spoke on behalf of the wanted IPOB members, said that “Nigeria’s combined military team attacked the peaceful Biafrans holding a candlelight service and offering prayers for the fallen Biafran heroes.

“We were peaceful and praying when the gathering was invaded by an overzealous Nigerian military.

“The military shot some of the participants dead and whisked others away. I was able to escape the arrest of the combined military team, Obed Stephen Ogujiofor said.

However, three policemen and one army officer reportedly sustained serious bullet injuries during an exchange of gunfire with the insurgents and are being treated.

The eliminated insurgents were responsible for the attack on the Headquarters of the Police and Nigerian Correctional Service in Imo on 5th April 2021 in addition to a series of attacks on security personnel and formations in the South East and South-South parts of the country, the website reported quoting an intelligence source.

The security forces allegedly came under rapid fire as they approached the camp of the group.

“In a bold and clinical response, the joint security forces fought back gallantly. The Forces eventually neutralized the overall Commander of the insurgents in the Southeast popularly known as Ikonso Commander and six other armed fighters of the insurgent group.

The Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a nationalist separatist group in Nigeria that aims to restore the Republic of Biafra, a country that seceded from Nigeria prior to the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1971) and later rejoined Nigeria after its defeat by the Nigerian military.
