The Executive Governor of Katsina state, Dr Dikko Umar Radda, has called on the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd to partner with the Katsina government in connecting critical institutions and agencies. This initiative is aimed at unlocking Katsina’s economic potential of the state by providing connectivity.
According to a press release signed by the NIGCOMSAT Head of Media Relations, Stephen Kwande said that the Governor made the call recently when he received the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, Mrs Nkechi Jane Egerton-Idehen on a courtesy call at the State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja. He emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between federal and state agencies to achieve transformative goals like technology transfer,
According to the Governor, the state would require connectivity on some of his projects already outlined such as Model schools to be equipped with 24-hour internet facilities to achieve high standards, 7 major hospitals for connectivity, an ICT Centre to develop the youth, Katsina Geographical Information Centre and E-learning platforms.
Governor Radda acknowledged the link between poverty and insecurity. He believes that internet access can empower young people by providing opportunities for economic gain through online ventures.
Additionally, he envisioned a more digitalized civil service with less reliance on paper files and a shift towards computer-based operations.
Earlier, Mrs Egerton-Idehen expressed NIGCOMSAT’s interest in exploring mutually beneficial partnerships in areas like agriculture and rural internet connectivity.
