Kyari Bags National Excellence Award In Public Service

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited Group Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Mele Kyari has won the National Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) for his “Outstanding Reforms Initiative” in Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Industry.

The GCEO received the honour on Friday from President Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

In his remarks, President Buhari noted that these awards were a validation of the work done by the recipients and a motivation to continue to do more.

The President noted that the Nigeria Excellence in Public Service Award put together by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in partnership with The Best Strategic Media is an award that recognizes and rewards service delivery.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, noted that the awards were scorecards of different offices at various levels.

“This is an award that recognizes and rewards excellence. It is for the development of public service and the nation at large. Recipients have been carefully selected from both the public and private sectors. Nigeria is our nation and we must stand up to protect and defend it”, Boss Mustapha said.

The National Excellence Award in Public Service was set up to recognize excellence in leadership, service, or humanitarianism.

To be eligible, the recipient must be a public official or a private citizen excelling consistently in a given sphere of influence, in good character standing, and must also be at the forefront of service and innovation. 

The 2022 recipients include former President Goodluck Jonathan; Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor; and Buba Marwa, chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Others are Senate President Ahmad Lawan; Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the House of Representatives, and the service chiefs.

Sixteen state governors were also honoured with the award. They include Yahaya Bello (Kogi); Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Babagana Zulum (Borno)and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).
