The Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter has called on Women, as well as older persons to intensify efforts in taking precautionary measures and total compliance to covid-19 protocols in this Yuletide season.
In a statement cosigned by the Chairperson NAWOJ FCT, Comr. Annah Daniel and the Secretary Comr. Nkiru Nnoli Okeke in Abuja they said it has become necessary following the announcement of Presidential Task Force (PTF) that Nigeria is now facing a rise in confirmed cases of Covid-19 which is translated to be the second wave of infections nationwide.
Comr. Daniel explains the need for self responsibility in curbing the menace as the issues of health and its challenges affects women, children and older persons mostly. Women should be more conscious of their wards both boy and girl child, how they conduct themselves during this season to avoid being infected and also guard against rape and abuse of their wards.
The PTF has surveyed developments and actions taken by governments around the world, assessed our domestic environment and has accordingly submitted its recommendations to Mr. President on immediate measures to be taken.
Accordingly, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorised the PTF to engage with the States and the FCT to assume full ownership of this stage of the response by deploying legal structures and resources, including enforcement to manage the pandemic within their jurisdictions:
“In line with the authorisation, the PTF has issued advisories to sub-national entities for implementation over the next five weeks because some activities especially this Yuletide season are considered super spreaders, so is important we adhere strictly to the new measures given as Lagos, Kaduna and FCT have emerged as the new epicenters during this period with over 70% of all confirmed cases.
The statement also called on Nigerians to shun every form of violence and embrace peace in this festive season of love, while praying that the reason for the season which is about the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will bring an end to all the Challenges being faced in the country.
