NEMA Begin Distribution Of Aid To Flood Victims In Abia State

In the continued quest in enhancing mutual accountability and re-enforcing commitment towards people in need of humanitarian assistance, the National Emergency Management Agency was in Umuahia on the 16th of December, 2022 for the official Flag Off and distribution of the federal government’s approved relief supplies to the flood affected persons in Abia State.

The Director General, of National Emergency Management, Mustapha Ahmed Habib represented by the Ag. Head of Operation, Mr. Nnaji Ifeanyi, remarked that the items were part of the ongoing relief approval for the affected persons of flood disaster in the state. He noted that the items are for the beneficiaries under the second trench of the federal government’s intervention for flood-impacted persons which cuts across fifty-two (52) communities and sixteen (16) Local councils in the State. Speaking further, he pointed out that the phrase is specifically on food items only which include; rice, beans, maize, seasoning cubes, sachet tomatoes, and vegetable oils.

The HOOO maintained that the materials can not and are not meant to pay back the losses incurred as a result of the natural incident but to reduce the pain and feel the impact of the government and recover from their losses. He finally applauded the Governor of Abia State for his continued commitment to addressing disaster issues in the state.

On behalf of the state, Executive Secretary Abia SEMA, Dr. Sunday Jackson thanked the Federal government through NEMA for their usual and timely response to the state promising that the materials will bring succour to the beneficiaries.
