…..commences e-registration of motorcycles, dismantling of illegal motor parks

Niger State Government says it has concluded plans to install Mobile Electronic System (e-Trafficker) that will monitor, track and assist in apprehending violators of road traffic laws for prosecution in the state.

The State Commissioner of Transport, Hajiya Ramatu Yar’adua, who disclosed this to Journalists in Minna, the state capital, said the move became necessary in order to effectively enforce compliance of regulations by vehicle owners.

Hajiya Ramatu Yar’adua stated that the e-Traffickers, which would be installed at traffic lights intersections, would monitor every passing vehicle and easily track motorists who chose to violate road traffic regulations.

She said her Ministry has been mandated by the State Executive Council to institute measures that will address some of the security challenges as it affects the transport sub sector.

“It is in this regard that we commenced the immediate E-registration of all commercial motorcycles and dismantling of illegal Motor Parks”, she added.

According to the Commissioner, each commercial motorcyclist is expected to be registered and issued a renewable ‘Riders Card’ stressing that the exercise will generate a comprehensive data base and ease monitoring of their excesses.

The Commissioner also disclosed that talks have been concluded with road transport associations and other relevant stakeholders while sensitization is still ongoing towards hitch free dismantling of the illegal Parks.

Hajiya Ramatu Yar’adua lamented the indiscriminate use of government vehicle registration numbers by some government officials and directed that all such plate numbers be recalled immediately.

She said the ministry is establishing an E-registration mechanism and Database for government vehicles in order to monitor and easily track their movements.
