Niger State Govt Solicits More Supports For IDPs As Deputy Governor Visits NEMA HQ

The Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed on Thursday received the Deputy Governor of Niger State Comrade Yakubu Garba who visited the Agency to solicit more relief support for victims of banditry in the state.

In a chat with the media after meeting with the Director of General NEMA, the Deputy Governor said banditry has led to the displacement of no less than 5,000 persons in the state. He acknowledged the continuous relief support delivered by NEMA to the state but said more were still needed for the displaced persons, especially to cater to their basic needs.

The Niger State Deputy Governor said he was also at NEMA Head office in Abuja to discuss how the State Government and the Agency can work together towards mitigating the likelihood of flood as contained in the 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook.

Responding, the Director General NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed assured the continued support of the Agency to disaster-affected persons nationwide. He commended the Niger State Government for being alert to the 2023 flood prediction, adding that every necessary action should be taken to mitigate against the anticipated impacts of the disaster.

The DG NEMA was joined in receiving and meeting the Deputy Governor of Niger State by the Director of Planning Research and Forecasting Dr Onimode Bandele Abdullahi, Director Search and Rescue Air Commodore Kennedy Mataluwo, Ag Director Relief and Rehabilitation Alh Adamu Abdullahi Usur and SA-DG Mr Idris Abubakar Mohammed. In the same vein, the Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to Niger State Government Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu, and other officials.
