NIPOST Clamps Down On 16 Illegal Courier Operators In Abuja

In a bid to sanitize the courier and logistics industry, the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), on Wednesday, raided over 16 Illegal Courier Operators and impounded several dispatch motorcycles of unregistered, unlicensed, and illegal Operators of courier and logistics services in (FCT) Abuja and its environs.

The Enforcement Operation was carried out by a combined team of NIPOST (CLRD) officials, Armed mobile Police Officers from the FCT Police Command, and Men of the Force Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (FCIID).

Addressing the media after the successful exercise on behalf of the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO (NIPOST), the GM CLRD, ‘Dotun Shode expressed deep concern over the reckless display of unethical sharp practices by some of the Operators, especially the unlicensed and unregistered ones nationwide. Hence, the need for a consistent clampdown exercises nationwide.

Shonde emphasized that operating without a valid license is a crime against the state. “It is tantamount to economic sabotage, unethical practices, and illegal operations and this will no longer be tolerated.

He further said that the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department(CLRD) NIPOST will continue its ongoing clampdown operations on unlicensed and unregistered Courier, Express, Delivery, Dispatch, and Logistics Operators Nationwide as stipulated in the statutory provisions of sections 43 ( 1,2 and 3) NIPOST Act, CAP 127, LFN 2004 and Regulatory Guidelines 2020.

He explained that similar enforcement activities were successfully conducted recently in Ondo State, Rivers State, Edo State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Lagos State, and (FCT) Abuja again this year.

Over Five Hundred (500) Unlicensed and Illegal Courier and Logistics Operators have been apprehended, clamped down,n and prosecuted.

Shonde promised that this will continue with a view to sanitizing and regulating the Postal, Express, Courier, and Logistics Industries nationwide.
