NITDA, NUC, SEB, Others Converge To Facilitate Implementation, Deployment Of Edutech Across Nigeria

In order to incorporate technology into the education sector, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has in conjunction with stakeholders in both education and IT sector have come together to deliberate on how to improve curriculum of schools and to use indigenous technology for learning.

NITDA revealed it is identifying a technical working group called Indigenous Edtech Working Group for Nigeria which will comprise of key sector players. This group will strategically look for ways to reach people in the rural area.

The agency made this known on the Day 2 of the Two-Day virtual NITDA Stakeholders’ meetup and hangout with the theme “Leveraging Indigenous Technologies to Enhance Educational Development”.

The meeting attracted personalities from Federal Ministry of Education, National Universities Commission, Tertiary Trust Fund, FCT Secondary Education Board, Academia, Industry expert amongst others.

The fourth Industrial Revolution leads to higher rate of automation and with automation lots of jobs will be lost. That is why NITDA is relentlessly working towards making the youth of this country future-proof.

NITDA believes there’s a cross-cutting area between technology and education. Looking at the current technological trends we discovered after much research that there is a lot of skills gap.

Antecedents have shown that the agency has taken technology to the grassroot through its intervention projects. It has also tried to explore other area or platforms that will ease digital literacy for instance Open source technology like the Unity Board which falls under Open source hardware. An indication shows that we are moving from analytical thinking to creative thinking.

The IT regulator assured stakeholders at the Agency is committed to ensuring implementation that is why it has created this platform where most of these indigenous products can be adopted. By bringing those in the education sector and those who will produce solutions for them.
