NNPC Is Not Sacking 500 Workers

The Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has debunked the news that about 500 staff have been earmarked to go.

Recall that some online media reported that following the new status of the commercialized Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, about 500 staff have been earmarked to go.

The online medium claimed that the affected staff have been given the first week of August to take a payout package and leave before the proper disengagement or continue to be employed with NNPC and risk getting the sack at any time.

In a response to Swift Reporters‘ inquiry, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Mr. Garba Deen Muhammad, said, “Not true. The PIA document states that no staff member will lose his or her job. That provision remains intact and NNPC Ltd is adhering to it. Besides, if the claim was true, NUPENG, PENGASSAN, etc., would have declared an indefinite strike by now”.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) transitioned to a commercial venture, NNPC Limited, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. It is hoped the transition will bring with it a whole new set of operational efficiency and competency to NNPC Limited.
