The Osun State Command Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has celebrated International Civil Defence Day in grand style.
According to a press release signed by the Public Relations Office Osun State Command Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ASCII Atanda Olabisi, she said that the 1st March of every year is meant to pay tribute to the effects of National Services responsible for the fight against disasters. Every year has its unique theme in commemorating the event and the theme for this year 2022, is “Civil Defence and Management of Displaced Populations in Face of Disaster and Crisis: Role of Volunteers and the Fight Against Pandemics.”
The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja, described “the International Civil Defence Day as a system that has worked throughout the world during the times of war, whereby a team of volunteers were created to assist and help to save casualties of war and also aim to make people more aware of the critical roles of Civil Defence, in Disaster Recovery and promotes awareness amongst citizens about Preparations, Avoidance and Self Protection in the course of accidents and disasters.”
Commandant Ocheja made this known today, 1st March 2022 at the Freedom Park, in the State Capital, after a 5.2km walk with the Officers and Men of the Command to commemorate the Celebration of the International Civil Defence Day.
Commandant Ocheja said, “the walk was a show of peace and not of Force, stating that Civil Defence is Civil in nature and today we celebrate the World Civil Defence Day to call on people and teach them about Safety Measures, Protection Skills in case of any form of emergency, natural or man-made disasters.”
Free medical testings were also made available for the public, at the park by the Medical Team of the Command, to help people know their blood pressure, sugar level etc. Face masks and other medical kits were also distributed to the public meanwhile Lectures followed immediately at the Commands Headquarters, with the Theme: ” Civil Defence and Management of Displaced Population in the Face of Disaster and Crisis.”
The Head of Crisis Management, NSCDC, Osun State Command, Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) Sanusi Hussein, emphasized the roles of the Corps, in finding remedies to emergencies in our dear nation. DCC Sanusi reiterated that the Corps is not working alone but in synergy with all relevant agencies for effective service delivery.
