Nasarawa State has so far utilized 49, 088 doses out of the 61, 000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines sent to the state by the Federal Government, translating to about 80 percent utilization.
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule disclosed this during the monthly state executive council meeting, which held at the Government House, on Monday.
According to Engineer Sule, with the feat achieved, Nasarawa State has one of the highest number of usage, especially when compared with other states in the country.
The Governor thanked members of the committee tasked with the responsibility of carrying out the vaccination exercise, as well as everybody for their effort, including frontline healthcare workers, strategic leaders, who made themselves available and to be vaccinated.
Giving a breakdown of the distribution of the vaccine utilization across the state, Engineer Sule disclosed that Lafia recorded the highest number with 4, 292 persons vaccinated, followed closely by Nasarawa, 2500 and Obi, 2300 and Nasarawa Eggon, 2034, with all others following closely.
“One of the area that really surprised me was Awe, where we have so far, 1, 900 vaccinated, even though Awe has the least number of those affected by the virus.
“I want to thank leaders that made this possible and worked so hard,” he stated.
The Governor used the opportunity to update the people of the state on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, further disclosing that so far, the state government collected 21, 138 samples, with 2, 316 confirmed cases. 29 deaths were also recorded.
Engineer Sule however expressed concern over the number of frontline healthcare workers that were infected, with the state recording about 302. He stressed that his administration will continue to work hard, as well as ensure that all COVID-19 protocols are observed.
The Governor showed appreciation to the task force on COVID-19, headed by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, for the good work the committee has been doing.
