PAN Condemns Demolition Of Nigeria Embassy In Ghana By Armed Men

………..Calls for thorough investigations and civil restraint

The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria (PAN) has condemned in strongest possible terms, the recent invasion of the Nigeria High Commission in Accra Ghana by armed men who destroyed some apartments under construction.

In a press release on Sunday, 21st June, 2020 signed by the National Director, Political and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Nte Mbam, he said that it is confirmed that a certain Ghanaian businessman led the armed men in the demolition of the affected property claiming that his land was encroached.

The statement read, “The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria views this development as embarrassing, inciting, unacceptable and capable of spatting serious diplomatic row between the Governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Ghana, if not properly addressed.

“The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria recalls similar incidence regarding the rumoured eviction of Nigeria High Commission in Ghana located at No. 10 Barnes Road, Accra by the host Government in January 2020 on alleged failure of Nigerian Government to renew the said property; wherein the Nigerian Government strongly debunked the rumour and dismissed any diplomatic row between both Countries.

“Although the latest incidence is completely a different scenario and given the fact that a private Ghanaian citizen was directly involved in the armed invasion and demolition, the Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria however expresses grave concern and strong reservations regarding the entire incidence, especially considering the complacent attitude of the host authorities to act swiftly in preventing the demolition when alerted.

“The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria therefore calls for holistic and thorough investigations by Federal Government of Nigeria towards unravelling the remote cause, undercurrents -and if necessary, political imprimaturs behind this incidence and respond with appropriate diplomatic measures as soon as possible.

“Accordingly, the Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria is in touch with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and welcomes the ongoing steps being taken by the Ministry in conjunctions with Nigeria Embassy in Ghana.

“On that note, the Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria hereby calls for civil restraint especially on the part of our citizens in Ghana in order to avoid emotional reactions or speculative utterances that are capable of jeopardizing the ongoing investigations, the statement concluded.
