PDP Holds Overwhelming Lead In Bayelsa West And Central Senatorial Bye-Elections

…..Dickson, Cleopas win in early results

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding an overwhelming lead over the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition parties that contested in both Bayelsa West and Central Senatorial bye-elections.

Reports that are trickling in from the polling units after voting, suggest that there was a clear evidence that the PDP had a good showing in five Local Government Areas where election took place.

The affected local government areas are Kolokuma/Opokuma, Yenagoa, Southern Ijaw, Sagbama and Ekeremor.

In Kolokuma/Opokuma, the local government area of incumbent Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the PDP has won the collated result polling 20,992 votes against the main challenger, APC, that got 4980 votes in the Central Senatorial District.

In Yenagoa LGA, PDP has won the election with 54,390 votes as against APC’s 6,155 votes declared so far.

In Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, the election was generally peaceful across the wards, the first time in a longwhile despite pockets of skirmishes in Foropa and Ezetu communities in Ward 14.

The PDP Senatorial candidate for Central, Mr. Cleopas Moses, won his ward 17 in Koluama with PDP also putting up great showing in other wards.

In Sagbama Local Government Area, the PDP showed strength winning with 68,056 votes as against 7703 votes by APC.

The impressive turnout and votes for the candidate, former Governor, Seriake Dickson at his local government area further reinforced the claim that the Local Government Area is a stronghold of the PDP.

At Ekeremor Local Government Area, the PDP currently holds an enormous lead, contrary to opinions forecasting a tighter contest owing to the fact that the candidate of the APC, Peremobowei Ebebi, hails from the Local Government Area.

Ebebi struggled to win only three units out of 13 units in his village, Aleibiri, with his party, APC, losing ward 3 to the PDP.

With more results trickling-in, the two PDP candidates are upbeat they would be declared winners today after conclusion of the collation exercise.
