Police Arraign Enugu Traditional Ruler, Four Others For Alleged Murder

… as CP Kanayo reiterates police resolve to bring everyone involved in the dastardly act to justice

Igwe Herbert Ukuta, the traditional ruler of Igga Kingdom in the Uzo-Uwani Council Area of the state, has been charged by the Enugu State Police Command with the murder of four individuals, including two police officers from his village.

According to a press release on Thursday, 6th June 2024 signed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that they were today, June 6, 2024, arraigned in court and remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre.

They were arraigned for the offences of conspiracy, terrorism, and murder upon being found culpable during investigations.

It will be recalled that on the said date, a combined security policemen and neighbourhood watch group, providing security for a team of investors on a visiting tour to a proposed agricultural investment site in the area, was ambushed and attacked by a large group of armed criminal elements harboured in the community.

However, the remains of the two policemen and three members of the neighbourhood watch group murdered by the assailants were later recovered following the revelations of the traditional ruler and others earlier arrested and detained on court orders.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has reiterated the resolve of the Command to bring everyone involved in the senseless act to justice.

He cautioned those hell-bent on using social media and insidious and clout-chasing online media publishers to publish falsehoods, in a bid to divert public attention from the mind-boggling issues in the case, to desist forthwith.

He warned that the command will not be deterred or distracted from getting to the root of the ugly by such unfounded media smear campaigns.
