Police Arrest 109 Illegal Miners In Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 109 suspected illegal miners operating in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel says the suspects were arrested following a raid on a suspected kidnappers’ den at Alogani mountain in Nasarawa Eggon local government area by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with vigilante.

DSP Ramhan Nansel further said that the operation commenced from Mada station to Wakama, a mountain stretch that kidnappers use as a hideout to keep their victims until a ransom is paid.

“In compliance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state, CP Umar Shehu Nadada psc, mni the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with the Vigilante group of Nasarawa Eggon LGA embarked on a massive raid of kidnappers’ den located at Alogani mountains. The Commissioner of Police has ordered continuous clampdown/ raids on criminal hideouts in the state and warned all criminals to turn a new leaf or meet their Waterloo,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the kidnappers deserted all the camps before the arrival of the operatives but one hundred and nine suspects were arrested at different locations on the mountain carrying out illegal mining of solid minerals such as Topaz, Tin, and Aquamarine.

It added that the suspects have been singled out and investigation is ongoing.
